We Recycle

Last Modified: Tuesday, July 5, 2011

It's never been more important to recycle, and here at The Toner Company, our commitment to protect and preserve the planet's finite resources has been unwavering since our inception. We encourage our employees and customers to be mindful of their carbon footprint and to consume as many recycled and recyclable products as possible. Toward that end, we encourage our account executives to educate customers about the great advantages of buying compatible (as opposed to original) toner cartridges, and we hope our customers respond in-kind.

Recycling is a simple and convenient way for individuals and corporations to reduce the amount of waste they generate, and subsequently, reduce the harmful, negative impact of that waste. By recycling, you also support the many positive outcomes that result in re-using the planet's resources. By recycling, you play a direct role in conserving our natural resources. Additionally, you have a major hand in saving landfill space, conserving energy, reducing both air and water pollution and the harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

By thinking and acting in a responsible global manner, we can all make an enormous difference to both the atmosphere and the economy.

The production of goods with recycled materials considerably slows the depletion of non-renewable resources such as metal, oil, and natural gas. The end-result will be a massive reduction in the encroachment of new mining and drilling initiatives. Another benefit is the preservation of undisturbed land and natural diversity, as the amount of land required for agriculture and the production of timber.

Typically speaking, much less energy is required to make products with recycled materials than with virgin materials. It is widely believed, as one example, that 20 times more energy is needed to make aluminum from bauxite ore than from recycled aluminum. Recycling just one soda can preserves sufficient energy to power a desktop computer for more than three hours.

Because most of the world's energy is generated by burning fossil fuels, using less energy translates into less water and air pollution. But there are types of pollution that are markedly decreased by recycling. Some examples are: runoff from mining operations and farms, soil erosion and the toxic chemicals released when raw materials are processed.

Every time waste is dumped into a landfill, that's precisely where it stays. The amount of time required for waste to naturally break down can be extraordinary. At a minimum, hundreds of years. Often times, more than 1,000 years are needed. Moreover, the process by which waste is broken down releases methane into the atmosphere, as well as other toxic pollutants into our water reservoirs.

So please remember these helpful tips:

  • Re-use products. If you don't have a recycling program in your community, try to find another use for the product rather than throwing it away.
  • Compost organic material. Composting yard trimmings, food scraps, and other organic wastes can dramatically reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfills.
  • Use your own re-usable bags to carry home groceries and other purchases.
  • Sell or donate products you can no longer use, such as clothing and furniture.
  • Take advantage of your community's recycling program. If your community does not have such a program, START ONE!
  • Strive to support recycling efforts by using products made from recycled material, such as compatible toner cartridges.
  • Use rechargeable batteries. Using rechargeable batteries not only helps to reduce waste, but it also helps keep the toxic metals found in some batteries out of landfills.
  • Donate old or unwanted electronics. Many electronics contain materials that are considered toxic and should not be disposed of in a landfill.

As world economies continue to crumble, it's important to be mindful of the fact that recycling is good for business. Recycling creates jobs, as both governments and multi-national corporations are continually investing ways to cut costs on materials.

So please, follow our lead and make a conscious decision to recycle. We're here Monday through Friday to answer any and every question you may have about purchasing compatible toner cartridges. It's a smart choice for your bottom line and for the planet.

Did you know that packaging account for more than one-third of all household garbage? We do. As such, all of our products are shipped in boxes that are comprised of 100% recycled materials. Producing one ton of paper from recycled pulp saves 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfill space, and approximately 7,000 gallons of water. It also minimizes air pollutants by 60 pounds, saves 360 gallons of oil, and conserves 4,200 kilowatt hours of energy. That's enough to heat a three-bedroom home for six months!

Recycling entails much more than placing newspapers and used milk containers in a specially marked bin. The process comes full circle only when that refuse is processed and remanufactured into wholly new products, which are then put back onto store-shelves for consumers to purchase. We must all fully cooperate in this endeavor. It's critical to recycle; but we must all encourage businesses to use recycled materials for the production of their goods for market.

Scientific research clearly shows that Earth is being depleted too fast to sustain a healthy balance for all of her inhabitants. The earth's natural resources are being consumed at a rate that reinforces the idea we are living for today and that future generations will be paying the dire consequences.

Recycling, along with reducing consumption, are our best means to counter the damage we have been inflicting on Earth for centuries. The importance of recycling is not only beneficial for the earth but also for businesses as they secure better relations with consumers over the issue of saving the environment. Businesses ultimately will spend less on production costs, resulting in less expensive consumer goods. Market research consistently shows individuals want to support companies that have a positive influence on the atmosphere and their local communities. When companies and consumers work together, we collectively can combine the importance of recycling and truly make a difference to Planet Earth.
